What Do You Need to Know About Sara Surigao? (In Their Own Words)

I grew up in a small beach town in South Carolina and was raised by two pretty fantastic parents. I grew up in a town that had one stop light, one gas station and one bank. It was magical but also paved the way for my obsession with big cities and constantly wanting to travel and experience life.

My first “big city” was when I attended Peace College in Raleigh, NC and didn’t know a soul, but it was exactly the adventure I needed. I finished up as the last graduating class of all women at Peace College (now William Peace University and coed) and then packed my bags up and moved back to my sleepy little beach town. I worked for a couple of small newspapers but quickly learned if I wanted to pay off my student loans (thanks private school) then I would have to have a more sustainable job – enter the world of healthcare. I worked for a large hospital corporation for about 5 years and while it was some of the hardest days of my young adult life, it taught me so many lessons about myself, others, the business world, and how to treat people.

Shortly after working for the hospital, I found myself in a totally different career field that led me down the path of home building and interior design. It became such a passion of mine but as much as I loved it, I was missing time with my boys. I took some time off to not have to miss school events or show up late to ball games and just soaked them up. After a couple of years and many talks with my husband I decided I wanted to get back into the workforce and here I am now! Learning something completely new again and appreciating every minute of it.
