Though Clemmons is a small village, it has a big history. There are several famous places and sights you shouldn’t miss in the area.
Chris Paul started playing basketball at West Forsyth High School, and later went on to play at Wake Forest before signing with the New Orleans Hornets. He also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, and currently for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
This church was built by Edwin Clemmons, the founder of Clemmons, upon his death. It was erected as a church, school, and parsonage. Children of local Moravian families who bought the land he set aside to sell for a dollar per lot were able to attend the school for free.
If you go to the Village Hall, you’ll find the completely restored Hattie Butner coach from 1872. It was the last coach purchased by Edwin Clemmons for his stagecoach business. It was also the largest with nine seats. He named it after his wife, whom he married in 1858.
The Reynolda Gardens have been a local wonder for over 100 years. It consists of 129 acres and is a center for recreational activities for the Piedmont area of North Carolina. The gardens were established in 1906 on what used to be the Reynolda Estate, which was once owned by Richard Joshua Reynolds of the RJ Reynolds Company.
The gardens are free to visit during daylight hours all year. Be sure to also check out the Reynolda House Museum of American Art while you’re this close!
