On June 12, 1952, Edward J. Fry, Richard E. Riebel, Edward L. Stoddard, and a few investors founded Foremost Insurance Company. They wanted to provide insurance to those living in mobile homes. It was the first of its kind!
Nine years later, in 1961, the company introduced “Travel Sure,” which was the first travel trailer insurance policy. They met the needs of a new sizable American group of trailer enthusiasts. The travel trailer policy was the company’s first step toward diversification.
During the same decade, they commissioned a study on mobile homes. The investigation resulted in many states creating mandatory tie-down laws.
By 1970, Foremost Insurance covered any vehicle that someone could drive, including boats, motorcycles, snowmobiles, mini-bikes, and all-terrain vehicles.
During the 1980s, the AARP recognized Foremost Insurance for its specialized work for homeowners over 50 and officially endorsed the company.
